Welcome to MELAD website

The Ministry has four divisions all working together in accomplishing its goals and objectives set in its Strategic plan. The Ministry in its portfolio also has the Phoenix Island Protected Area implementing office which coordinates work for implementation in Kanton. The 4 components of MELAD are mainly the Environment Conservation Division, Land Management Division and the Agriculture & Livestock Division all cooperated in one service and managed by one Secretary and Honorable Minister. MELAD headquarters is located in Bikenibeu comprising of four units which are the Admin, Planning & Project unit, Account unit, and IT unit. These four units work as one in delivering efficient and effective administrative MELAD services to the public

The Phoenix Islands Protected Area, passionately referred to as the PIPA was first discovered in 1999 by the international scientists led by Dr. Gregory Stone of the New England Aquarium (NEAq) based in Boston Massachusetts, US.
